To celebrate International Women’s day, the women at Sphere Bio came together under the theme #InspireInclusion. It was a day filled with insightful and empowering discussions, providing us with an opportunity to deepen our connections across departments. We heard from two inspiring women within our team, who each shared their unique stories and achievements.
Charlene-Louise
Operations Manager
I’ve been with the company for just over a year and am lucky enough to work with an amazing team of people!
After working in NHS and Biotech laboratories for over 20 years, moving into an operations role was a good fit which allows me to use my experience to support my colleagues as the company grows.
I’ve spent many years researching and learning skills to allow me to spend my retirement off grid. Whilst most people think of retiring to warmer climates, I’m working on my ice fishing skills and currently preparing for a one-month trip hiking in the Smoky Mountains. I can’t wait to take some time out to go tubing down the Little Mississippi River and sleep under the stars.
“Work/home life balance is extremely important to me as a lone parent. The juggling act of work and parenting responsibilities has been challenging over the years. Thankfully, Sphere Bio has fostered a culture that values hybrid working patterns which enable me to have a quality home life.”
Time at Sphere Bio: 1 Year+
Hobbies / Interests: Learning the harmonica, ice fishing, attending my daughter’s music concerts and going to gigs.
Highlighted Book: The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks, Rebecca Skloot. The book brings to life the legacy of a remarkable woman who would never know the significance of the scientific discoveries, that would be made from her tragedy – Hear a few words from the author here.
Amalia Matsi
Quality Control Technician
Born and raised in beautiful Greece but ethnically Albanian, my role within Sphere Bio as a QC Technician is responsible for testing and ensuring all our products are up to standard.
I used to work in pharmaceutical QC, so mainly cleanroom testing and environmental monitoring. I kind of stumbled across QC work as most people do and then came across the role with Sphere Bio on LinkedIn and applied! And here we are almost one year on and loving it!
“My greatest achievement would be purchasing a house! It is a dream come true for a long time and after constantly working full time and studying it felt like the fruits of my labor finally paid off. And getting my BSc is another one of my greatest achievements!”
Hobbies / Interests: Gym, long walks, movies, concerts, fashion & nutrition.
Future Aspirations: Being content with all life achievements and taking the time to appreciate all the work I’ve put in so far. Learn and develop myself into more artistic skills. I aspire to make pottery and create cute things for my home.
If you could invite any woman, past or present, to a dinner party to celebrate International Women’s Day, who would it be and why?
Jane Austen. She’s such an inspiring woman of our generation and her books have helped a lot of women with their coming of age, especially me. Growing up reading her books has had a huge impact of who I’ve become as a woman. I also think she would have loved and appreciated women being celebrated for who they are and would’ve been proud to see how far women have progressed!
